NOODLE-IN TEXAS STYLY

A couple of years ago Keith's Grandpa showed us how to noodle, it's a blast. NO, it's not like those crazy people who put their hand in a hole and let the fish bite it. I'm brave, but that just doesn't seem like fun. We usually catch an average of 100lbs. a trip. This year the weather has been kinda strange, they are not biting that good on the south end of the lake yet. We went Friday for the first time this year, thought we would have to go to the bank for a loan to fill the boat up.
These are noodle's. Okay, I'll explain a little more. Have you ever seen the noodles in the kid's swimming dept. at wal-mart? They are foam and about 4 ft. long. They are to play with in the pool, well, unless someone in your family noodle's. We cut them in 6" lengths and rig them with a line, sinker and hook. Then you have to wrap them in white duck tape and put your name and address on them. You just throw them out in the lake and let them float. We usually have about 75 to 100 out at a time.

When a fish gets on one it stands up like a mailbox flag. If the fish is very big 20lbs. or bigger, he will take it under, that's when the real fun begins. It may take 30 minutes or more chasing him around and waiting for the noodle to pop back up to finally get it in the boat. We have a long telescoping pole with a hook on the end, you just hook it around the line right under the noodle and pull it in.

Sometime you catch something that you would rather not put in the boat. This gar is small compared to the one we caught last year. It was as big around as a steering wheel, and could hold the noodle under for 30 minutes at a time.
Not bad for a day of fun.

Hey, Lynn.

That's quite a haul! I wouldn't want to come face-to-face with a gar either...they creep me out.

I've enjoyed all your other posts, just haven't had time to chat about it. Hope all is well with you in that hot Texas weather! :)

Kim,
The gas prices have kept us from fishing as much as we would like. Toni was letting Cameron look at the blog, when she saw the gar she tripped out. She had to call and ask if I caught the loooong nose fish. We took them the next weekend, she wanted to catch her a loooong nose fish.

I understand about being busy, I think we all live to fast.

Amy,
Thanks for stopping by, I have also checked out your blog.
